1922 — Today
More than a century of service
Established in 1922 by Dr. Sorabji P. Shroff, SCEH began with a vision to eradicate avoidable blindness and an idea to provide equal eye care to every section of society. Today it is one of the oldest and largest NABH accredited eye care institutes in India.

Community Impact
Taking eye care beyond hospital walls
SCEH's Vision Centres help address preventable vision impairment and serve as a first point of contact in rural communities and underserved urban areas — supported by vision technicians, community health workers, teleophthalmology and a clear referral pathway to hospital care.
The network is backed by AI-enabled handheld fundus cameras, data-driven monitoring, subsidised glasses, community awareness activity and Ayushman Bharat awareness.

Community health workers raise awareness and identify people who need care.

Vision Centre
A Vision Centre acts as the first point of contact close to home.

Screening
Vision technicians screen for refractive error and eye disease.

Teleophthalmology
Cases are reviewed remotely by hospital-based ophthalmologists.

Specialist Care
Patients who need surgery or specialist care are referred onward.

Spectacles, treatment and follow-up restore everyday sight.
